I am not sure if this is old news or not, anyway I didn't notice it until today and maybe others didn't as well.
Some days ago AMD bought ATI for ca. 5,4 billion $ (well that's not the news)

But I missed another interesting thing:
AMD has plans to release the graphics drivers as OpenSource.
